It is important that the furnace in your home or business is up and running at peak performance at all time. You do not want there to be a furnace problem because a big furnace problem means big money. Heating and cooling systems need to be maintained (or repaired; Mercury Tec can handle it all) if they are to last long. Many people think that it is hard to maintain a heating and cooling system, but it truly is not that hard. Here are a few ways to maintain the heating and cooling system in your home or business.

Clean The Air Ducts

The air ducts need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Over time dust and other debris will definitely get caught in the air ducts of your home . This is especially true around tight corners of the airway, and also the perpendicular airways. When dust and debris block the vents, it causes the system to work much harder than it has too. When it works harder, there is a much higher chance of the system having a malfunction. If you do not want to hire a professional to do it every time, you should take a very powerful vacuum and vacuum the air ducts out at least every six months. This will keep the system from becoming to blocked. It is recommended that a professional clean the vents at least every other year.

Clean The Filter System

A major part of the heating system is going to be the filter. The filter prevents dirt from getting inside the furnace. Every gas furnace should have the filer changed often, depending on how often the furnace is used. The filter effectively traps dust, dirt, and other debris that could do a lot of harm to your heating system. If you check the filter and there is a lot of debris, do not hesitate to clean or replace the filter. It is smart to just simply replace them since they are affordable.

The Blower

Now that the filter system is cleaned the next thing that should be looked at is the blower. If there has been any dust penetrate the filter, it will go to the blower. This means that the blower needs to be cleaned. To do this properly and remove all debris you will want to clean the blower, belts, and pulley. These are easy to access, you will just need to remove the cover panel and use a damp rag to clean the blower, pulleys, and belts.
